Sophia Skoda
Director of Finance
Water flows deep in Sophia Skoda's DNA. While growing up in Kenya and India, she witnessed the difficulties people around the world encounter in obtaining clean water. Her father worked in water supply and sanitation for the United Nations and these early experiences significantly impacted Sophia's future career aspirations. Educated in the United States, she has a bachelor's in civil engineering from Stanford and a master's in water resources engineering from UC Berkeley. As part of her career path, she worked in water/wastewater finance before joining the District.
Sophia is committed to achieving the District's goal of delivering a high-quality product at a fair price, not just today but also, per the District's mission, for future generations. As a leader, Sophia believes it is important to create an environment where each person feels valued, respected, seen, and supported. "I care deeply about my employees and am committed to helping them succeed. I like thinking creatively and endeavor to guide staff to become comfortable doing things differently, not just the way things have always been done."
Sophia considers hiring and building a talented workforce as one of her top priorities. As a woman of color in a visible position, she aims to demonstrate to prospective employees that EBMUD welcomes people from all backgrounds.
