Michael Tognolini
Director of Water and Natural Resources
Michael (Mike) Tognolini has a longstanding relationship with EBMUD. He was raised in Richmond and currently resides in Alameda County. For most of his career, Mike has worked at the District. His interest in water supply began at a young age, leading him to pursue a bachelor's and master’s degree in civil engineering with a specialization in hydrology from Stanford University. He has since risen through the ranks to become the Director of Water and Natural Resources, where he has been instrumental in building partnerships with various agencies and establishing sustainable water sources to benefit EBMUD customers. Like many of his EBMUD colleagues, Mike is fully committed to serving the community. He takes his responsibility of providing reliable and high-quality water supplies while preserving natural resources very seriously. In his current role, he leads a highly skilled team that expertly addresses a wide range of concerns related to water supply resilience, water rights, drought management, watershed management, recreation services, and the protection of wildlife and fisheries.
Mike takes pride in nurturing the growth of his employees and is constantly seeking ways to improve himself as a leader. He values the innovative ideas and creative solutions that his diverse team brings to the table and recognizes that their contributions have led to successful innovations.
