Conserving
& Recycling
EBMUD has
one of the largest water conservation programs in California and in 1994 was one
of the first water utilities in the nation to develop a water conservation
master plan.
Water
recycling is part of EBMUD’s water supply planning, as any demand met with
recycled or non-potable water reduces the demand for higher-quality potable
drinking water.
Residential
Residential
customers can receive free information and devices to help them save water and
rebates for installing water-efficient toilets, clothes washers, and landscapes.
Non-Residential
Commercial
customers may qualify for rebates for installing water-saving fixtures or
equipment or for increasing the efficiency of on-site water use including
water-using manufacturing processes.
Recycling
EBMUD uses recycled water and water from local
reservoirs as sources of non-potable water. Recycled or reclaimed water is
wastewater that has been highly treated and disinfected to meet strict
California Department of Health Services regulations.
Water Smart Tips
It’s
easy to save water in and around your house and EBMUD can also help you save
with information, rebates and other programs.
WaterSmart Garden Grant Program
EBMUD now offers monetary awards to community groups and organizations for
public garden projects that clearly and effectively demonstrate water-conserving
principles.
