What is Progressive Design Build?
Progressive Design Build (PDB) is a collaborative project delivery method that brings the owner, designer, and contractor together early in the project. Unlike traditional project delivery, where design is largely completed before a contractor is selected, PDB allows the project team to work together as the design develops.
EBMUD selects a Design-Builder based on qualifications and other criteria established in the procurement documents. After selection, EBMUD and the Design-Builder work collaboratively to advance the design, evaluate alternatives, address project risks, develop the project schedule, and refine construction costs.
As the design progresses, the Design-Builder develops a proposal to complete construction, typically including an agreed-upon project price and schedule. If EBMUD and the Design-Builder reach agreement, the project proceeds into construction.
