EBMUD owns and operates 23 dams, and each provides reliable water storage. Keeping these structures safe and secure is one of our most important responsibilities. As a public agency, we are proactive and comprehensive in our approach. We inspect, maintain, upgrade and improve all our dams to protect people, property and the environment.

Talk about an overachiever. The Mokelumne River not only supplies some of the best water on the planet to nearly one and a half million people in the East Bay. It also supports one of California’s most robust salmon populations.

With your next sip of EBMUD water, take a moment to appreciate where it comes from. High in the Sierra Nevada, vast pine forests blanket much of the Mokelumne River watershed. That vibrant landscape captures the snowmelt and rainfall that ultimately flow to our homes, and those mountain woodlands serve as nature’s first filters.

On a typical day, 740,000 EBMUD wastewater customers send 50 million gallons of dirty water down their sinks, shower drains and toilets.
