STEP 1: COMING JANUARY 20
➡ INTAKE SCREENING FORM HERE
To protect drinking water and prevent the spread of invasive golden mussel, all trailered boats must complete screening, inspection, and quarantine before launching at Camanche Reservoir.
All trailered boats must begin by completing the intake screening form. Only vessels that pass screening may schedule an inspection and banding appointment. (Appointments begin February 2. Boats banded before April 1 will not be eligible to launch until May 1 due to seasonal opening.)
What type of vessel do you have?
Trailered boats
This includes powerboats and any boat launched from a trailer.
Requirements:
- Intake screening required
- Inspection required
- 30-day quarantine required
- Banding required
Kayaks, canoes, paddleboards, car-top boats
These vessels cannot be banded.
Requirements:
- Must be clean, drained, and dry
- On-site screening required before every launch
Before your inspection appointment
Your boat must arrive fully prepared. Boats that do not meet requirements will be turned away.
- Hull, motor, and trailer clean and dry
- Bilge, ballast, and live wells drained and dry
- Anchors, ropes, life jackets, and all gear clean and dry
- Be ready to share recent vessel history
Understanding boat bands
🔴 Red band
Applied after inspection. Indicates the vessel is in the 30-day quarantine period. Band must remain intact.
🔵Blue band
To return to Camanche without starting another 30-day quarantine, boats must get a blue band before exiting the park. The boat must be off the water and return to the banding area to have a blue band applied before 8pm. You may return to Camanche to launch any time with a blue band.
Broken, missing, or tampered bands are invalid and will result in denial of launch.
In late 2024, the highly invasive golden mussel was detected in the Sacramento–San Joaquin Delta. Golden mussels pose a serious threat to aquatic ecosystems, water infrastructure, and water quality. Boats are one of the most common ways invasive species spread between water bodies. To protect drinking water supplies and critical infrastructure, EBMUD suspended public boat launching while a long-term prevention program was developed.
No. Golden mussel has not been detected in any EBMUD reservoir. The 2026 boating program is designed to keep EBMUD reservoirs free of invasive mussels.
Open: Camanche Reservoir South Shore only
Closed:
- Camanche Reservoir North Shore
- Pardee Reservoir
These closures are necessary to reduce the risk of invasive species spread.
Season: May 1, 2026 through October 1, 2026
Hours: Daily from 6:00 am to 8:00 pm
Camanche Reservoir will be closed to all boat launching after October 1, 2026.
Launching a trailered boat requires completion of the inspection and quarantine process:
- Clean, drain, and dry your boat, trailer, and all gear
- Complete the Camanche Vessel Inspection Screening Form
- If your vessel meets intake screening requirements, you may schedule an inspection and banding appointment
- Pass the inspection and receive a quarantine band
- Complete the required 30-day quarantine
- Return to Camanche South Shore for band verification prior to launch
Only boats that have completed the quarantine process and passed inspection will be allowed to launch.
No. All boaters must complete the intake screening first. Only boaters who pass intake screening will be eligible to schedule an inspection and banding appointment.
Beginning February 1, 2026, eligible boaters may begin the 30-day quarantine process after completing intake screening and scheduling an appointment. Boats banded before April 1 will not be eligable to launch until May 1 due to the season opening.
EBMUD staff will:
- Review your vessel history
- Conduct a visual inspection of the hull, trailer, motor, bilge, live wells, and other compartments
Your boat must be fully clean, drained, and dry. Boats that do not meet these requirements will be turned away and must reschedule.
A tamper-resistant band placed on approved boats after inspection.
Red band: Vessel is in the 30-day quarantine period
Blue band: Applied after each launch when vessel is removed from the lake. Vessel may return to Camanche without another 30-day quarantine, as long as the band remains intact
Bands that are broken, missing, or show signs of tampering are invalid. Boats with invalid bands will not be allowed to launch.
Yes. Boats with internal ballast tanks, internal plumbing, or live well systems that cannot be fully visually inspected must complete a full decontamination by EBMUD staff before launching.
Additional decontamination may be required based on vessel history or inspection results.
Car-top boats, kayaks, canoes, and stand-up paddleboards cannot be banded and must be screened by EBMUD staff at the gate upon entry.
- Clean, drained, and dry vessels that pass screening may launch
- Vessels that do not pass screening will be turned away
All gear, including paddles, life jackets, anchors, and ropes, must also be clean, drained, and dry.
Launching at unauthorized ramps or without passing inspection is a violation of EBMUD rules. Violations may result in fines, punishment, or revocation of lake access.
Vessels that do not pass inspections, should repeat the clean, drain and dry process detailed above and will have to wait a full 5 day dry out period before making a new appointment to return for a follow-up inspection. Boats failing due to mussels detected will be referred to the CDFW for any further actions.
Boat covers are also a good option for winter months to avoid standing water. In the event of larger or prolonged weather events, we may suspend inspections and reschedule. Your boat must be Clean, Drained and Dry to pass inspection and receive a quarantine band
No. Unless you have a permanent storage slip at North Shore, you must launch your vessel at South Shore.
To maximize compliance and safety, EBMUD has decided to only inspect and band at South Shore. If your vessel completes the mandatory quarantine period and you are able to secure an on site storage spot at North Shore, you can apply to get added to the Approved Launching List at North Shore. Vessels on this list are stored in the park, either in Dry Storage or in a Berth and can have access to the launch ramp between 8AM and 4 PM.
Welcome to the North Shore and South Shore Recreation Areas at Camanche Reservoir in the Sierra Foothills. You’ll find access to 12 square miles of lake and 53 miles of shoreline.
Popular activities include fishing, swimming, waterskiing, jet skiing, and windsurfing. Visitors can also play tennis and basketball, picnic, bicycle and hike. Boaters may rent open or covered slips year-round at both shores, and patio and fishing boats also are available for rent.
Both resorts offer comfortable campgrounds and rental cottages with kitchens. Recreational vehicles can hook up for one night or up to six months at South Shore.
Things to do
Accommodations
With over 500 campsites and 200 RV hook-ups, there’s sure to be one that fits your needs. Many sites offer immediate lake access while others are just a short walk away. Campsite amenities include barbecues, tables, water, hot showers, restrooms and laundry facilities.
Tent and RV sites are available year-round at both North and South Shores with RV hook-up sites at South Shore only. Self-contained RVs may camp at North Shore. Turkey Hill Equestrian Campground is available for equestrian groups.
For those who enjoy the outdoors but don’t want to rough it, cottage and motel rooms are available. These tidy, simple cottages have kitchens, barbecues, air conditioning and TVs. Only single-room units are available at South Shore, while North Shore units offer single or multiple adjoining rooms.
Picnicking
Numerous picnic sites are available at both shores, with tables and barbecues; some include shade canopies. Eucalyptus Day Use Area at South Shore is available by reservation. Both shores have a pair of children’s playgrounds to keep the kids busy.
Fishing
Camanche is known for great bass fishing, but is also a favorite of trout anglers. Each year more than 50,000 pounds of trout (each more than a pound) are stocked between October and June. The large trout pond at South Shore is great for bank fishing for children or to drift your float tube. The bass population gets a boost from fingerling Florida-strain largemouth bass. Other species include smallmouth bass, catfish, crappie, kokanee, bluegill and sunfish.
The fishing access fee is $7.75 per angler, per day. Fees fund the fish stocking program. A State fishing license is required for all anglers 16 years and older. Both can be purchased at the marinas where you can get bait and tackle too.
Boat rentals
Patio boats, deluxe patio boats, fishing boats, kayaks and paddle boats are available for rental every day. You can also rent fishing poles.
Boat launch
The South Shore boat launch will be OPEN from May 1-October 1. See information above regarding procedures for launching.
Hiking
Many miles of hiking/equestrian trails can be accessed from Camanche (permit required). At North Shore you can hike or horseback ride along the China Gulch trail, taking in the views of the lake along 10.2 miles of trail with an optional 3-mile loop. At South Shore you can access over 25 miles of the Mokelumne Coast to Crest Trail. See trail maps and guides below for more information.
Amphitheater
Check the schedule at either marina general store for upcoming events. Bring a blanket or folding chair and enjoy a movie every Friday and Saturday evening in the summer at South Shore.
Bring your dogs
Dogs are welcome (fee required) in developed areas, but must always be leashed and controlled.
Food
Try the North Shore Café for an early morning breakfast or afternoon lunch. Or get a burger and fries at the South Shore Marina Grill. Campers can pick up groceries and camping supplies at the marina stores.
Wildlife
See flocks of white pelicans, geese, ducks, and shorebirds along the water. On the trail, you may see wild turkey, quail and dove, plus predators such as eagles, ospreys, hawks, and owls. Be on the lookout for deer and bobcats.
Self-guided birdwatching

Tips for bird-viewing:
Keep your distance. It is important that birds and other wildlife remain undisturbed to ensure that these majestic birds will continue to inhabit local watersheds. Bald Eagles, for example, must conserve energy to hunt because only 1 in 18 attempts to secure prey is successful. It is best to quietly observe them from a distance of at least 330 feet.
