How many gallons of water do you use in a typical day?
More than 90 percent of EBMUD customers say they either don’t know or estimate they use less than 30 gallons a day, according to a recent survey.
In fact, the average East Bay customer uses around 50 gallons a day for drinking, cooking, bathing, dishwashing and laundry. (That doesn’t even take outdoor watering into account.) Yes, our water supply is in much better shape following heavy rains last winter. But as climate change intensifies the swings between wet and dry conditions, our most precious natural resource remains under pressure. So mindful water use is always in season.
Every California household is being asked to continue saving water for our future. Across EBMUD’s service area, our goal will be to reduce average indoor water use from 50 to 42 gallons per person per day by 2030 to meet new state standards.
