EBMUD repairing water main at Ygnacio Valley and Homestead

OAKLAND - EBMUD crews continue to repair a major water transmission line at the intersection of Ygnacio Valley Road and Homestead Avenue in Walnut Creek following a pipe break that occurred Thursday afternoon, January 8, 2026. The location is a heavily traveled commuter intersection.

  • What: Emergency repairs are underway on a 70-year-old 16-inch steel water line. Site excavation, repairs to the pipe and roadway restoration are expected to continue today and through the evening commute. EBMUD crews are working around the clock on complicated underground infrastructure. EBMUD is coordinating this work with the City of Walnut Creek. Three services located at one office building are currently without water and EBMUD is investigating the cause of the break.
  • When: Friday, January 9, 2026
  • Where: Intersection of Ygnacio Valley Road and Homestead Avenue in Walnut Creek
  • Traffic impacts: The middle lanes in both directions of Ygnacio Valley Road remain closed, and traffic impacts are ongoing. Traffic control is in place at the intersection to direct motorists. Drivers are encouraged to avoid the area and use alternate routes while repairs continue. EBMUD will continue to provide updates at ebmud.com/alerts as work progresses.
  • Notifications: Emails were sent to EBMUD customers in Walnut Creek, and updates have been shared on social media and through the City of Walnut Creek.
