Glendale Regulator

638 EBMUD ConstructionMap Berkeley GlendaleRegulator 050126

The East Bay Municipal Utility District (EBMUD) is proposing the Glendale Regulator Project (Project) which includes installation of a new above-ground pressure regulator, known as the Glendale Regulator, adjacent to the sidewalk along Glendale Avenue at Glendale La Loma Park and approximately 250 feet of new 8-inch-diameter pipeline in Glendale Avenue between Campus Drive and the new regulator location.

The Project will improve emergency response, including available hydrant flows, and water service reliability to the area served by the new regulator, including the surrounding Glendale La Loma Park area.

EBMUD has been coordinating with City of Berkeley staff on the Project. The location, adjacent to the sidewalk, was selected to minimize disruption to the park space. The regulator will be located within existing public right-of-way and City of Berkeley-owned property with a dedicated easement. The regulator will be installed on an approximately 11-by-7-foot concrete pad and enclosed within a green-painted metal vault approximately 8.5 feet wide, 4 feet deep, and 3.5 feet tall.  Potentially, two trees will be removed as part of the Project any replanting will be coordinated with the City of Berkeley.

Construction is anticipated to begin in 2028.

EBMUD staff will present the Project details at a virtual public meeting on May 27, 2026, from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m.
