Explore the Richmond Low Water Demonstration Garden

What do you think is the most important ingredient to create a show-stopper demonstration garden? 

Join us for an interactive afternoon and explore the Richmond Low Water Demonstration Garden. Dawn Kooyumjian, UC Master Gardener Program Coordinator for Alameda and Contra Costa Counties, will present on the transformation of the Richmond Low Water Demonstration Garden, partnership with the City of Richmond, and overcoming barriers to create an eye-catching garden. A discussion on placemaking principles will be facilitated. In the garden, the UC Master Gardeners of Contra Costa County will cover topics such as garden design, native and Mediterranean low water plant adaptations, eradication of Bermuda grass, irrigation system, and educational features. An update on State water conservation ordinances (AB1572 and AB1573), EBMUD water supply, and new rebates will also be covered at the event.

As the UC Master Gardener Program Coordinator, Dawn provides programmatic oversight and volunteer management to a vibrant and highly active Master Gardener Program in Alameda and Contra Costa Counties. Prior to joining then UC Master Gardener Program, Dawn was a Horticulturalist at Blake Garden in Kensington, California where she developed and curated a diverse collection of low water plants. Dawn holds Master's Degree in Landscape Architecture from the University of California, Berkeley.

Location:  Richmond Public Library, 325 Civic Center Plaza, Richmond, CA 94804 (across the street from the Demonstration Garden)
Parking: Parking available at the Library and across the street in public parking lot. Carpooling encouraged. BART to Richmond Station and take a 13 minute walk.
What to bring: water, sun hat, comfortable shoes, pen, clipboard.
Event will take place with light rain or shine. Light refreshments provided.
