What are the goals of the Bay Delta Conservation Plan?

The Bay Delta Conservation Plan was initiated in 2006 by Delta water exporters who are seeking long-term permits to pump water from a north of Delta diversion point on the Sacramento River. The water would be delivered to agricultural and urban users in the Bay Area and Southern California. The goals of the plan are:

  1. to build a conveyance facility or tunnel to bypass the Delta to improve water supply reliability
  2. to develop an ecosystem restoration plan to recover endangered and threatened species
