EBMUD is improving the water system to meet future demands in the areas of Orinda and Lafayette served by Happy Valley Reservoir. At this time, there is not adequate water storage capacity to meet peak daily demand.
The new Happy Valley Pumping Plant will be located on Miner Road at Camino Sobrante in Orinda. An associated pipeline was constructed in two phases, one completed in summer 2009 and the other in summer 2023. A third pipeline associated with this project will be constructed on Miner Road through Lauterwasser Creek onto Van Ripper Lane in the summer of 2024. Temporary traffic control measures will be in place to guide drivers around construction activities.
Workplan and schedule
Construction of the new pumping plant began in summer 2022 and will last until the spring of 2025.
