CA's Organics Waste Reduction Ordinance
How do we get set up to comply with California's new statewide organics waste reduction ordinance?
Organic waste creates the largest waste stream in California and emits methane, a super green house gas more potent than CO2. To address this concern, Senate Bill 1383 - the most significant waste reduction mandate to be adopted in California in the last 30 years - will launch January 2022. This law requires the state to reduce organic waste [food waste, green waste, paper products, etc.] disposal by 75% and increase edible food recovery by 2025.
Here to walk us through this ambitious and fast moving law are Kelly Schoonmaker, Stopwaste Program Manager (RLA) and Ron Alexander, President of R. Alexander Associates, Inc. This presentation will include a review of the ordinance and timelines, breakout sessions to share ideas with your peers, and resources to get started. EBMUD water supply and drought updates will also be covered.
