Fish Community Surveys

  Sampling Reservoir Fish

Sampling San Pablo Reservoir fish

EBMUD operates four drinking water supply reservoirs in the East Bay:  San Pablo, Upper San Leandro, Briones, and Lafayette.  Each of these reservoirs has unique characteristics and a diverse fishery.

Fish populations can vary greatly from year to year and species will respond differently to environmental conditions.  Since 1990, EBMUD biologists have conducted periodic fish community surveys in these reservoirs to monitor fish populations.

These surveys provide information regarding spawning, survival, age-class structure, and estimates of population size.  Moreover, the surveys serve as an early warning for introduction of non-native species.
