Clarifier at the Main Wastewater Treatment Plant in Oakland

EBMUD provides wastewater treatment for parts of Alameda and Contra Costa counties.  The wastewater system serves approximately 640,000 people in an 83-square-mile area along the east shore of San Francisco Bay.

Biosolids
EBMUD’s biosolids are highly processed, regularly monitored and tested to ensure that they meet or surpass the strict quality and safety standards established by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, State of California, local governments and others.

Industrial & Commercial Permits and Fees
EBMUD has a source control permit program to minimize the discharge of pollutants entering the wastewater treatment plant and San Francisco Bay and to ensure appropriate application of fees, charges, and rates.

Resource Recovery (Trucked Waste)
EBMUD inspects and accepts non-hazardous trucked waste to help meet our state's need for safe, environmentally responsible waste disposal.

Residential Pollution Prevention
A considerable amount of pollution entering the Bay comes from homes. Even though individual households may only contribute small amounts of pollution, together they add up! Learn how you can help protect the Bay.

Save The Bay Partnership
EBMUD and Save the Bay have partnered in a new public education campaign to help you protect San Francisco Bay.

Sewer System Management Plan
The Sewer System Management Plan describes how EBMUD effectively manages the
operation and maintenance of our collection systems to reduce and prevent sanitary sewer overflows (SSOs).

Treatment
EBMUD operates a wastewater treatment plant that treats wastewater collected by nine East Bay cities and cleans it before discharge to San Francisco Bay.
