Lafayette Recreation Area Fishing Report
August 2008

Trout Bite
It’s pretty hot out here but people are still catching trout.  Early morning seems to be the best with fisherman using powerbait in the south cove.  Also the anglers coming into the park at 6:30 PM and staying until closing have been catching good numbers of fish as well.  For the nighttime bite the east cove has been producing fish as well.

Bass Bite
Still getting reports of fisherman catching good numbers of bass using plastics either dropshoting or casting senkos.  For the most part the fish are on the small side (10-14 inches) and you can get into a good number of fish if you bring a backpack and walk the reservoir.  I have been getting reports of some anglers getting fish on the top water bite throwing mainly a lot of frog baits.

Catfish Bite
The people targeting cats have been doing well in the south and east cove using worms or chicken livers. We have seen some nice fish this week in the 8-10lb range with most of them being caught in the evening.  The beginning of this week we had a catfish plant from Bundy’s of 1250lbs of 2-3lb channel cats.  I have been seeing most of the catfish caught by anglers coming in the evening.

Sunfish Bite
Now that the water has warmed up a good deal we are seeing good numbers of bluegill around the docks.  There are a lot of small ones though.

Perch Bite
Still haven’t had too many reports of perch being caught. Try fish the edge of the submergent vegetation with a 1/2 to a 1/3 of nightcrawler.
