Field Learning

  Children restoring a creek

EBMUD offers educational programs for children to learn more about protecting our environment, how natural systems function and how our drinking water supply relates to those systems.  Our Rangers work with school age children to enhance habitats, stabilize soils, and restore natural conditions to creeks and disturbed areas in the East Bay.

Program Information

Educational programs are held at one of our designated restoration locations during morning school hours on specific days of the week.  Each school can schedule a maximum of three sessions per school year and each session can include up to 40 kids. Please make sure there are enough adult chaperones available to assist the Rangers and children with activities. It also helps to consolidate your school’s groups into as few restoration classes as possible to make room for other schools.  Since field trip dates are at a premium, cancellations need to be made a minimum of 5 working days prior to field trip date so that your date may be offered to another school.  Failure to provide 5 days notice may prevent your school from participating in future years.

Bus Subsidy

Schools with severely limited funds for field trips can request a subsidy for half or all of the transportation costs. The request to EBMUD stating the need must be from the school principal.  Call (510) 287-0151 for details.

Reservation Information

These programs are scheduled for December through April by appointment only and reservations are taken on a first come first serve basis. Please check the calendar (use the arrow to forward to 2009) for available dates before sending in your request form.  Currently, reservations can be made via mail, fax or email and appointments cannot be reserved without receipt of the reservation form.  We require one reservation sheet per class (not per school). If you have a limited number of dates available, we recommend emailing or faxing your request for a faster response.  Send your reservation form to:

  • mail - Attn:  EBMUD Education 500 San Pablo Dam Rd. Orinda, CA 94563
  • fax - (925) 254-8320
