Water Service Charge - A fixed charge based on the size of the water meter. This charge is not based on the amount of water used. Water Flow Charge - This charge is for water used. One unit of water equals 100 cubic feet, or 748 gallons. Elevation Charge - An elevation surcharge based on the energy costs of providing water. The charge is per 100 cubic feet of water. Seismic Improvement Program Surcharge - A flat Seismic Improvement Program Surcharge for each Single Family Residential or Multiple Family Residential account to pay for system-wide seismic improvements being made from 1995-2005. The SIP program costs are being paid over 30 years; the charge is effective on each water bill through February 28, 2025. Account Establishment Fee - The account establishment fee covers the costs of computer programming and data entry that occur when a customer sets up a new account. It is charged each time a customer establishes a new account because EBMUD incurs those expenses every time an account is created. Wastewater Treatment Charge - These charges are collected on the water bill for specified cities. The charge is to cover the cost of chemically treating the wastewater coming from the customer's premises. SF Bay Residential Pollution Prevention - All residential customers in EBMUD's Wastewater System, including BCC 8800, BCC 6513 and BCC 6514, are billed a monthly SF Bay Residential Pollution Prevention fee to fund programs to reduce residential pollutant loadings to the treatment plant and San Francisco Bay. The monthly fee is $0.09/month per dwelling unit up to five dwelling units. City of Oakland Sewer Service - This charge is collected on the water bill on behalf of another public agency. The charge is to cover the costs of operation, maintenance and improvement of the agency's sanitary sewer system: storm drains and sewer pipes. Elevation Band - The elevation band is determined by the pressure zone in which the service connection is located Pressure zones are identified by designations which include elevation. Band 1: Pressure zone served solely by gravity flow. No pumping is required. Band 2: Reservoir elevations between 200 and 600 feet. Pressure zone required pumping. Band 3: Reservoir elevations above 600 feet. Considerable pumping required. Unit - One unit of water equals 748 gallons.
