Self-Adjusting Irrigation Controller Rebate Program

During the irrigation season it is common for conventional timers to apply twice the amount of water that plants really need. A self-adjusting irrigation controller turns your irrigation system on and off in response to local weather data or soil moisture measurements, adjusting your irrigation system every day — even while you’re on vacation.

EBMUD customers who use more than 750 gallons per day of summer irrigation and replace an existing irrigation timer with a qualifying model may be eligible for a rebate of $100, $150, or $200 per controller, depending on water consumption history. EBMUD account holders who meet the program eligibility rules below can qualify for a rebate.

Regardless of eligibility, all customers can receive a free customized calculation of the likely payback on investment, a free on-site landscape consultation to assess and recommend irrigation system improvements, and an on-site review of proper programming.

To participate:

  1. Purchase a qualifying controller between July 1, 2010 and December 31, 2010, or have your landscaper or gardener purchase the controller. Obtain a dated receipt that itemizes the controller cost.
  2. Install and program the controller according to manufacturer’s directions, or contact a distributor for a list of professional installers.
  3. Complete, sign, and return application to EBMUD within 90 days of purchase.
  4. EBMUD will contact you to schedule a site visit to verify installation and programming of controller.
  5. Upon verification, EBMUD will approve the rebate. Approved rebates may take up to 8 weeks to process and will be issued as a credit on your water bill.
