Employee Benefits Program
Health
Plans: EBMUD
offers Kaiser, Health Net, and ACWA Blue Cross Prudent Buyer Classic plans. EBMUD pays the full cost of Kaiser medical
insurance premium. Employees pay a portion of Health Net and Blue Cross
medical insurance premiums. Coverage is also available to employee’s
domestic partners. Some plans have limited geographic areas. Dental
Plan: Fully paid Delta Dental coverage, when using
participating dentists, provides 100% basic care, 50% prosthodontics, and
$3,000 lifetime orthodontia benefits. Benefit limit is $2,000 annually,
except for orthodontia. Coverage is also available to employee’s domestic
partners. Vision
Plan: Fully
paid Vision Service Plan coverage provides one exam and eyeglass lenses every
calendar year and one set of eyeglass frames every 2 years. Life
Insurance: EBMUD
pays for coverage equal to 1.5 times annual base salary for regular coverage
and 3 times annual base salary for accidental death and dismemberment
coverage. Employees also may purchase Supplemental Life Insurance benefits
from 1 to 5 times annual base salary (this additional insurance may require
the completion of a health questionnaire). Supplemental
Benefits: EBMUD
provides up to $705 annually for each regular employee to use for pre-tax
flexible spending or take as cash. Pre-tax
flexible spending plans can help employees and their eligible dependents pay
for medical/dental expenses or dependent daycare services (not paid through
a group plan). Disability
Insurance: EBMUD
paid long-term disability insurance pays up to 60% of base salary after six
months full disability. Short-term disability is also available to all
employees at some cost to some employees. Vacation:
Employees accrue 12 days vacation annually for the
first four years of employment; 15 days annually for the 5th
through 9th years; 18 days for the 10th through 12th
years; then one additional day per year of service to a maximum of 25
days/year. Sick
Leave: Employees
accrue 13 days per year and may use up to 13 days of accrued leave annually
for family medical emergencies. Unused leave adds to retirement benefit or
may be paid as cash, within certain guidelines. Holidays:
EBMUD provides 13 paid holidays plus a floating
birthday holiday and an additional holiday per year dependent on
employee’s represented group. Administrative
Leave: Managers
and supervisors not eligible for overtime receive up to seven days
administrative leave per year (may be prorated in the first year based on
hire date). Other
Paid Leave: Special
leave is available for bereavement of immediate family, funeral of close
relative, jury duty, military duty (in compliance with California state
law). Retirement:
Benefits are based on years of service, age at
retirement and highest two-year average salary. Employees and EBMUD
contribute to this plan. Employee contributions are pre-tax. The plan is
reciprocal with PERS and certain other California public agencies. Pre-Tax
Salary Savings Plans: EBMUD
offers a 401(k) plan and a 457 plan. A 401(a) plan is also available for
some employees. Deferral limits vary in accordance with federal regulations. Flexible
Work Schedules, Job Share, and Telecommuting: Flexible
work schedules, job shares, and limited telecommuting may be available with supervisor
approval. Tuition
Reimbursement: EBMUD
offers up to $2,500 per fiscal year for classes and supplies for job-related
education outside of working hours. Transportation
Subsidy: Employees
are eligible for discounted BART and transit passes. Fitness
Facility: Workout
areas are maintained at several EBMUD sites for the use of all regular, LT/TC,
and regular part-time employees. Recreation
Pass: Employees
and retirees get free or discounted access to EBMUD recreation areas and
