Drought water rates include a 10 percent in volume charges for all customers (except recycled water customers) and a $2 surcharge for each unit (748 gallons or 100 cubic feet) of water used above a customer's individual allocation. Residential customers using less than 100 gallons per day would be exempt from the increased rates and surcharges. To help better understand what’s being asked of you and to avoid surcharges during the drought, you can view your individual drought allocation and water use goals. Also, you can monitor your household’s water consumption as frequently as you want by reading your meter. Customers with special circumstances can request for an adjustment to the water allocation used to calculate the drought surcharge. Drought rates are designed to encourage customers to reduce water use, to compensate for the revenue lost due to reduced water use, and to fund drought management programs. Drought water rates
and surcharges take effect August 1, 2008.
