WaterSmart Residential Landscape Rebate Program

EBMUD
offers landscape rebates to single-family homeowners who convert
their high-water-use gardens into water-conserving landscapes. This program
educates homeowners in the water saving strategies possible in the garden
and encourages the use
of plants appropriate to our summer-dry climate and irrigation efficiency.
Eligibility Requirements

You must currently use EBMUD water to irrigate the landscape you are changing.

Participation in the program is on a first come, first served basis until funds are depleted; one rebate per customer.

Water use for outdoor landscape must average a minimum of at least 500 gallons per day during the summer (e.g., subtract your January water use from your July water use). See the bottom of your water bill to check your water use.

Any combination of irrigation, permeable hardscape, and planting material costs may qualify, up to a maximum of $1,000.
The Landscape Rebate offers:

50% of the cost of drip irrigation parts and 50% of the cost of MP Rotator sprinkler heads to renovate a lawn spray system.

25% of the cost of landscape materials, including water-conserving plants, mulch, rocks and gravel.

Up to $1.00 per square foot for the cost of materials for permeable hardscape (i.e., pavers, flagstone or brick set in sand, or other materials that allow water to pass through). Replacing irrigated lawn with artificial turf qualifies as installing permeable hardscape.

No labor costs are rebated.

All projects must be approved in advance. The program is not retroactive.

All changes must be made to landscape that is currently irrigated with EBMUD water. The program cannot be used to install landscaping at a newly built home or where no landscaping previously existed.

Sales receipts and contractor invoices are required for all rebates.
