WaterSmart Residential Conservation

EBMUD offers a variety of conservation services and programs for residential customers in our service area.

Clothes Washer Rebates
EBMUD customers can get a combined rebate (while funds are available) from EBMUD and PG&E for $125 or $200 for installing a high-efficiency clothes washer from the Consortium for Energy Efficiency (CEE's) tier 2 or tier 3 qualifying product list (not including washers that use silver ion technology), purchased between January 1, 2008 and December 31, 2008. Application must be submitted within 90 days of purchase date.

WaterSmart Garden Grant Program
EBMUD now offers monetary awards to community groups and organizations for public garden projects that clearly and effectively demonstrate water-conserving principles.

Irrigation Controller Program
EBMUD customers can
find out about WaterSmart irrigation controller discount incentives. 

Landscape Rebates
EBMUD's Residential Landscape Rebate Program promotes outdoor water use efficiency in single-family homes.  

High-Efficiency Toilet Rebate Program
EBMUD offers customers $150 or up to the total toilet cost (not including sales tax), whichever is less for the purchase of qualifying High-Efficiency Toilets (HETs) between January 1, 2008 through December 31, 2008.  Limits on the number of toilets applies. Toilets must be installed and rebate applications must be postmarked within 90 days of purchase date.

Toilet Performance Testing
State of the art toilet performance testing serves as the basis for the High-Efficiency Toilet Rebate Program eligibility.  See the current test report for detailed information on test methodology and toilet flush performance.

Conservation Publications
EBMUD produces a variety of publications to help customers save water.

Free Conservation Devices
Low-flow showerheads, faucet aerators, and other water-saving devices are available to most EBMUD customers. 

On-Site Water Surveys
EBMUD offers free, on-site surveys of indoor and outdoor water use to all single-family and multi-family residential customers within the EBMUD service area.

Residential Indoor Water Conservation Study
See the evaluation of high-efficiency indoor plumbing fixture retrofits in single-family homes in the EBMUD service area.  This research was possible through a grant from the U.S. EPA WAVE program.

Submeter Study
EBMUD participated in a recently completed national study on sub-metering and billing allocation programs in the multi-family sector.
