South Reservoir Replacement Project

EBMUD is planning to replace South Reservoir, located at the north end of Gail Drive near Grove Way in Castro Valley. EBMUD will be constructing one 8.5 million gallon water storage tank within the footprint of the existing reservoir basin. This reservoir replacement will improve water quality and increase reliability by removing excess storage, and will be designed to meet current seismic design standards.

Workplan and Schedule

In accordance with the California Environmental Quality Act, EBMUD prepared and filed a Notice of Exemption with Alameda County in January 2011. Comments on this document closed February 15, 2011.

Design of the project began in August 2011 and will take about one year to complete. Project construction is estimated to begin in Fall 2012 and be completed in 2014.
