Schapiro Reservoir Replacement Project
EBMUD is replacing the aging Schapiro Water Reservoir, which is located between Bonita Road and Capitol Hill Avenue in unincorporated Richmond and backs up to the Wildcat Canyon open space. The reservoir supplies water to about 2,000 residences. The existing in-ground reservoir, built in 1955, will be replaced with a tank reservoir that will be partially buried inside the existing basin.
Workplan and Schedule
Construction work related to this project began in early 2011 and will take approximately 18 months. During construction there will be some truck traffic from Hillcrest Road to Bonita Road. Also, Wildcat Canyon trail access at the end of Bonita Road will be closed during construction and hikers will be routed up Monte Cresta Avenue. Key project milestones are:
- Build a new access road off of Bonita Road
- Demolish the old reservoir
- Construct the new reservoir
- Restore and landscape the site
