Recycled Water Pipeline Construction - Danville & San Ramon Area

Recycled water helps save limited drinking water supplies, especially during droughts; safeguards community and private investments in parks and landscaping; makes drinking water supplies more reliable, helping to sustain our economy, and protects San Francisco Bay.

This project is part of the San Ramon Valley Recycled Water Program which supplies recycled water for irrigation of parks, greenbelts, schools, common area landscapes and golf courses in the San Ramon Valley. When complete, this multi-phased project will serve an annual average of 2.4 million gallons per day of recycled water to EBMUD irrigation customers in parts of Blackhawk, Danville and San Ramon. The first San Ramon customers began receiving recycled water in 2006. In fiscal year 2011 the project delivered recycled water to offset the need for a total of more than 174 million gallons of EBMUD drinking water.

The San Ramon Valley Recycled Water Program is a joint effort between EBMUD and the Dublin San Ramon Services District to serve their respective customers. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, San Francisco District, is a federal partner in this project, providing construction management. Federal stimulus funding was appropriated in 2009, accelerating the schedule. EBMUD provides construction management assistance.

Construction Information

Three miles of pipeline were installed in Danville and San Ramon in 2011. Expanding the San Ramon Valley Recycled Water Program will require the funding, siting, designing and construction of two pump stations to bring recycled water from the treatment plant in Pleasanton to portions of San Ramon, Danville and Blackhawk. Additional recycled water pipelines still need to be constructed to reach customers in these areas.
