39th Avenue Reservoir Replacement

39th Ave Reservoir Replacement - 4290 Maybelle Avenue

The existing 39th Avenue Reservoir in Oakland is 90 years old. Rather than install a new roof and major upgrades, EBMUD plans to replace this existing 10 million gallon reservoir with a smaller tank (3.5 million gallons) that will provide enhanced seismic stability, improved design, and more efficient water quality maintenance.

Workplan and Schedule

In accordance with the California Environmental Quality Act, EBMUD completed an Initial Study report of environmental impacts and determined that, with mitigation, this project will not generate significant impacts. The Mitigated Negative Declaration (MND) is available below under "Published Studies and Other Resources."

Written comments on the MND must be received no later than 4:30 p.m. on October 29, 2012. Please address comments to East Bay Municipal Utility District, Bill Jeng, Associate Civil Engineer, 375 11th Street, MS #701, Oakland, California 94607, or email 39th.ave.mnd@ebmud.com. Following the close of the public comment period, EBMUD will consider this Initial Study, MND, and public comments thereto in determining whether to approve the proposed project at the Board meeting scheduled in late 2012 or early 2013. Construction will start in 2019 and is expected to take approximately 18 months.
